Description

Australian Kookaburra – 1/10 oz of pure Australian gold

The Australian Kookaburra 1/10 oz Gold Coin is a limited-mintage bullion coin produced by The Perth Mint. Struck from 999.9 fine, 24-karat gold, each coin contains 0.1 troy ounce of pure gold and is issued as Australian legal tender.

The Kookaburra series is one of The Perth Mint’s best-known precious-metal programmes. First introduced in 1990, it takes its name from the distinctive Australian bird famous for its unmistakable laughter-like call.

An Australian icon in gold

The kookaburra is one of the most recognisable symbols of Australian wildlife. Native to Australia and New Guinea, the bird belongs to the kingfisher family and has become deeply associated with the Australian bush.

The Perth Mint has celebrated the kookaburra through changing annual designs, making successive issues visually distinctive while maintaining the underlying precious-metal characteristics of the series.

The reverse of the coin depicts the kookaburra in a design specific to its year of issue and includes the KOOKABURRA inscription, The Perth Mint’s P mintmark, year, weight and purity.

Modern issues feature the reigning monarch on the obverse together with the coin’s Australian monetary denomination.

Produced by The Perth Mint

Established in 1899, The Perth Mint is one of the world’s best-known producers of precious-metal bullion and collectible coins.

Its internationally recognised programmes include the Australian Kangaroo, Kookaburra, Koala and Lunar series, combining high-purity precious metals with designs inspired by Australian wildlife and culture.

The Australian Kookaburra has been issued since 1990 and has developed a particularly strong following among both precious-metal investors and coin collectors.

Limited bullion mintage

Unlike mass-produced investment coins, Gold Kookaburra bullion issues are produced in comparatively limited quantities.

This gives the coin an interesting dual character: its intrinsic value is based primarily on its physical gold content, while its limited production and annually changing designs may also create additional interest among collectors.

It should therefore be viewed somewhat differently from high-volume 1 oz investment coins such as the Australian Kangaroo, American Buffalo or Canadian Maple Leaf.
